Welcome to Mini Signers. We promise to make your baby’s first steps into the world of sign language an absolute blast! Now, we know trying out a new class with your little one can be scarier than a poonami in Harrods, but fear not! We’ve got you covered with laughter, learning, and a whole lot of fun.
Before you even arrive, I’ll send you information and a video of the venue explaining where everything is so there is no surprises.
Now I know from experience that you can almost guarantee, on the day you need to leave the house on time the universe will try and delay you. There will be lost shoes or socks, a dirty nappy or vomit as you head for the door, a refusal to eat lunch or your child doing a very good impression of an ironing board when you try to get them in the buggy. But no matter what state you arrive in, you’ll receive a warm welcome from me. I’ll give you a tour of our space, explain how the class works. Then I’ll introduce you to the other fabulous parents. If you have any questions about the class or about sign language, feel free to ask—I’m here to help!
We understand that parenting can sometimes feel isolating. So we’ll do our best to help you meet new friends. Taking away the pressure of having to break the ice yourself. From the moment you join our class you are a valued member of our signing community.
We like to keep our classes small and personal so that the children can see me and I can see them. Don’t worry if your little one doesn’t join in at first. Even when they are wandering around they are taking everything in. We do not expect children to sit still or to be quiet during the class. In fact it’s great when they crawl, cruise or walk around. My personal favourite is the commando crawl, I wish I had that sort or upper body strength. Children learn best when they feel safe and relaxed and being happy to move around the room freely shows that. Plus, socialising with other children and developing motor skills are just as important for communication as learning sign language.
Our classes are all about fun, laughter, and of course, learning sign language. But whether you’re a baby sign newbie or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone at Mini Signers. There’s no pressure to get the signs perfect. The most important thing is that you have fun and enjoy the experience.
Another great thing about learning to sign is that it benefits you, as the adult’s, mental well-being. Learning any new skill releases endorphins that make you feel good. So baby sign language is a great way to bridge the gap between the repetitive and simple songs a baby needs to learn and your endorphin fix for the day. It’s also very useful to sign to someone across a loud busy coffee shop that you want a chocolate biscuit or cake with your coffee please.
We’re all about having a good time here at Mini Signers. So go ahead, laugh, learn, and maybe even make a few new friends along the way. And when the class is over, I’ll be there to chat one-on-one. I’d love to get your feedback, answer questions and can give you all the info on next week’s class.
